This past weekend, my brother took me on a “Brothers Week-end” adventure…sort of like a Bachelor Party for the two of us….without the need of a fistful of dollar bills.
The week-end started in Bedford, where I met Steve for the trip down south to New Albany/Louisville. I actually arrived there before Steve got off of work, so being the nerd that I am….I headed first to Oolitic to see the statue of the Great Joe Palooka and then to Green Hill Cemetery in Bedford to explore and take some pics.
We finally met up at his house…and headed south to New Albany to stay at the Horseshoe Casino and Hotel.
After checking in…we headed down to eat at the Paula Dean Buffet…but unfortunately (due to reasons that most of America knows about)…they were changing the name of the Buffet and decided to close up to remodel. So…we headed over to a restaurant there called Legends and had an awesome meal. I had Blue Moon Shrimp with Blue Cheese Coleslaw while Steve had Prime Rib. It was sooooo good! In fact…sitting here typing about it is making me hungry!
After dinner…we headed to the Casino. As we walked in….I rubbed the Big Gold Horseshoe for luck. Steve chose not to, as he said it has never worked for him before. Well…it worked for me!! It has been awhile since I have been to a casino…so Steve (along with some very nice gamblers around me) helped me to learn how to play. We mostly played 1 cent and 2 cent slots….and I came out $100.00 ahead at the end of the evening. Steve…not so lucky! But we both had a lot of fun!
Around 10:30….we then headed out to Waverly Hills Sanatorium. Waverly Hills is considered to be one of the scariest places in America and a host of strange paranormal phenomena has occurred and been well documented there on a regular basis. Check Out The Waverly Hills Website They now host tours for those brave enough and the proceeds go towards the restoration of the building. Steve and I were lucky enough to have a 4 hour tour planned for the night. Both of us are skeptics…but with some belief due to previous experiences at Waverly. But what I experienced that night was enough to make me a true believer!
I won’t take the time to tell you all the details….but if you are interested….let me know, and I will tell you about the whole experience. What I will do though is tell you what happened that turned me into a believer.
After a short guided tour, we had free reign of the floors, with about 12 people touring each floor. The first floor that we were on was where the cafeteria was originally located in the hospital. Steve and I sat down in the darkness (as there is no electricity in the building) waiting to see if we could see any shadow figures, hear any noises, or even get one of the ghosts to play with a ball that we had in there. After a while, my legs started hurting so I stood up and moved to the children’s section of the cafeteria. I tried to interact with any “ghosts” or “spirits” without any luck and finally started to head back to where Steve was. That was when I felt something grab my hat off of my head and then toss it about 5 feet from where I was standing. I quickly looked around…and nothing was there. I freaked out. I started calling for Steve to come over to where I was. When he got there, I picked up my hat and just started backing up (to where…I have no idea). It was then at that point, that something grabbed my hat from my hand and tossed it again. Steve witnessed this happening as well. I completely freaked out. I was hoping to have something happen while we were there….but I guess I wasn’t expecting it be like that. Steve then tried to keep interacting with whatever had done it, but nothing else happened at that point.
A little bit later, we were heading to another part of the hospital, when I went to wipe the sweat off of my head and realized my hat was no longer there. I do not remember feeling it be removed or anything like that, but it was gone. Again…I freaked out.
We eventually moved on to another area, and when we came back, we started telling people about what had happened. One of the ladies asked if my hat was camouflaged. I told her it was and then she told me that she had seen it in another part of the hospital. She took me to it, and there it was lying on the floor. I wasn’t sure if I should even pick it back up, but I did and actually wore it the rest of the time there without further incident…but it was truly a freaky experience! Other things did happen, and we did see and hear some weird things, but the whole thing with the hat was enough to make me a believer for life.
Around 4:00 we finished our tour…and headed back to the Hotel for about 4-5 hours of sleep. LOL We couldn’t sleep for too long…we had another full day of adventure planned.
I got up about 9:45, got showered and dressed, and headed down to the gift shop. Steve got up and got ready and we headed back down to the casino. We had about 50 minutes to spend there before we had to head out. Steve had a couple of Casino “promotions” that we both could use which was basically $55.00 of the casino’s money to gamble with. After about 20 minutes….I was up another $200.00 and he was up $50.00 so we quit and headed out again! And in case you are wondering….yup….I rubbed the gold horseshoe for good luck again!
Next on the agenda….The Gentlemen’s Cut
Their motto is “Men don’t belong in a beauty salon. They belong in a place designed for Men!” Now…this place was awesome. When you walk in…you sign in and then head over to the BEST. WAITING ROOM. EVER. Reclining chairs…Putting Green Area….Drinks (pop, water or beer)…big screen TV….and everywhere you looked….beautiful women working away! Since neither of us have much hair (on our heads)….Steve signed us up for massages! H-E-DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS YEA!!!!! Megan was her name….and massages were her game! And I think she could win every time! This was a first for both of us….but we both agreed that they were awesome! Steve stayed awake for all of his….but man….I was so relaxed I slept through most of it….but that in itself was amazing!
Now…with both of us totally relaxed…and with a long drive awaiting us…what do we do? GO TO PIZZA KING!! That’s right! BBQ Pizza from the King is the BOMB!!!
Totally relaxed and now with full tummies….we headed back north. On the way, Steve and I got to talking about my fascination with Railroads, etc. So….we headed to the Tunnelton Haunted Train Tunnel. According the Indiana Paranormal Society, paranormal activity has been seen and documented inside the mile long tunnel on many occasions. There are also numerous rumors about things that happened there during the tunnels construction and ever since that could explain many of the sightings. It was really cool! Now getting there is a little scary….and it was one of the times that I sort of wish Steve hadn’t told me that he didn’t have his gun with him….but once there that worry faded! We walked the entire tunnel…but managed to hold onto our hats! LOL It was very cool though and will probably go back some day!
And sadly….that was the end. We made our way back to Steve’s house and then I headed home.
It was such a fun, cool and exciting week-end though. Just being able to spend time with my brother like that was awesome! Steve planned the whole thing…and he didn’t even know that it would knock off three things on my bucket list.
1. Have a “Brothers Weekend”
2. Go back to Waverly Hills for a longer visit
3. Get a full body massage.
So….I guess he helped me get closer to Death!?? Guess it’s a good thing I don’t actually call it my bucket list! I call it my “Live Like I Was Dying” list.
I cannot thank Steve enough….and I am not sure he truly knows how much I love him and how much I loved this week-end trip! It meant the world to me!!
Now…does anyone want a possessed Camouflaged Chevy Hat??
